There is NO such thing as a starter bird :) With research, patience and commitment, any species can be a great one for a new-to-birds owners.

It sounds like you really adore this little lovie already :D

I would say go for it, my first bird is a lovebird, pictured below, and i have worked 40hrs a week. It can be hard sometimes, but i make up for it and have him out a couple hrs a day at night, i also have a perch outside of his cage where i just let him sit there while i do other stuff in my room as he lives in my room, and he will just sit and chill there lol
