Fluid buildup in the abdomen will also cause labored breathing, and a " crackle sound" from the lungs, due to her airsacs being compressed...the fluid could be from reproductive issues, in older birds..liver issues, or possibly cancer..in the liver... not trying to scare you.. did they notice a swelling on her belly? Did they do an ultrasound? Is she trying to lay eggs? Aspergillus test? I hope shes gonna be ok.

Yes she had a lot of fluid in the abdomen and the crackling noises. The vet drained the fluid, got blood and culture stuff done and cleared the stuffy nostril a bit. Also got a x-ray done. Hopefully when they call with the results tomorrow we'll have a better idea of what is wrong. The crackling sound is gone now and she is breathing regularly again! :xflove:

She is now happily perching at home after eating rice with warm banana and getting scritches.

A little late getting in on this thread. So extremely glad that it sounds like she is feeling better. Let us know the results of the tests. Give her scritches from me and TD. Give your Dad a hug and kiss and a big thank you!

Great that you were able to take her to the vet quickly and that she is showing improvement.
Sending positive thoughts for Spike.

Good job........you noticed right away that something wasn't right and you monitored her and then Dad took you both to the 24/7 vet (yay Dad, good job too) and now she has been seen by an Avian Vet and has a treatment plan. It sounded like an upper respiratory infection but it will be interesting to see what the Xrays showed. You jumped on this in a timely manner and probably saved her by not waiting to see if she would get better on her own.
