We heard the results today. She had quite a bit of atherosclerosis, not too surprising since she grew up on seed before we got her and changed her to pellets. There was also evidence of a heart attack. The vets feel that the multiple/prolonged seizures Tuesday night probably gave her a heart attack and then she threw a blood clot which caused her to loose the use of her legs. It is nice to know why and that for sure our other birds are not at risk. The vet didn't charge us for the necropsy because all 3 specialists there also wanted to learn from her case. They saved us her leg band and took an imprint of her foot or us, we will pick up those tomorrow. I really feel we were extremely lucky to have a great medical team near by for her.
That of course, does not help us to deal with the great sorrow we are dealing with. My husband has to change his cell phone ring, as Graycie could imitate it exactly, now whenever he gets a call we cry. Making things worse is that today would have been her 19th birthday. We had a sweet last night together, and she must have known it was ok to let go.
