Amazing how quickly you got the necropsy results. It took 3 weeks (in Canada) when we lost our beloved Military macaw.
I am so sad for you and your husband, but it's good that you know what happened.
How nice that you had that one last special night with her.

Doris, I'm guessing this was only the gross necropsy which doesn't generally take long although sometimes they can take forever to send us the results. If tissue samples are being sent out as well for a histopathology, those results will take a few weeks. Lauren, do you know if they're going to do the histopathology or not?

I am so sorry for your loss but I'm glad you decided to do the necropsy. I think this is so important.

Yes....realized that after I posted. Thanks for clarifying, Jen.

Lauren and Jonathan,

The pain is great - I know that. Gracie is greatly loved and will never leave your hearts. I'm sure she will do a fly by to check up on you now and then.

Thank you for having the necropsy done and I think the results should give all AA members a heads up. So far Hank, Jasper, Gracie and Rosie have been diagnosed with atherosclerosis. Perhaps this disease is something that should be put up for inclusion in annual exams . Especially for those birds who are older and have knowingly been on highfat diets and overweight birds. Artherosclerosis can't be cured in humans or birds, but there are medications that can greatly extend lives and make lives much more pleasant.

This is a great incentive for us to lean down those diets and make sure our birds get lots of exercise. Make that blood pump and airsacs expand. Flapping and flying are good things.

Lauren, again I am so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl and that photo says it all. She was in her "safe spot" and she knows you loved her to no end. Hugs to you and your husband and remember she will never leave you. She has a special place in your hearts.

I'm glad you were able to get some answers and a bit of relief that it was nothing contagious. My heart aches for you. And even though I saw that sweet picture of Graycie in your other thread, it still brought tears again. :sadhug2: Take one day at a time. That's all you can do.
