Please try to have the vet do a necropsy. While the cause of his death may be an injury, underlying health issues may make the bird unsteady, causing fall or flight injuries.

A loss of a bird, however seemingly accidental, should be thoroughly investigated for the health of the rest of the flock.

Sorry for your loss.

We are getting this looked into. It really doesn't make sense. I couldn't find any blood anywhere but under his wing.

He did have flight issues. His old owner clipped his wings. He could get a little height, but I'm not sure if that would account for the missing feathers on his head, as he couldn't fly quickly and I can't find them either. None of the birds seem to have them, I scoured the room, dogs didn't have access until 10pm, and the crested gecko I bought yesterday morning and his glass enclosure were not in the room until I got back from the vet with the bad news. I do have large windows, but they're closed and the white sheer curtains deter the birds from going there, and the bamboo slats were lowered. The only mirrors are; 1 covered by my housecoat all the time, 2 not hung up yet and pressed up against the wall glass first. Nothing and no one came into or left my room but me and two birds who were scheduled for shower time, which was hours prior to this. He wasn't one of them.

This is all super strange.

I'm starting to worry we may have a rodent in the house. We're picking up a humane trap and are going to double check for holes.

I do remember that the other birds were all huddled together. About half were on the highest cage and the rest were in Triss' cage, which is very strange for them. Triss was in her box with her latest batch of duds and ignoring the intrusive birds, which is also strange.

If it is a rat, I don't want to kill it. I just want it out. I like rats, would have gotten a little pack if my dogs didn't chase rodents.

Just found out today. Woke up to the birds screaming, one terrified gecko, and my dog scratching to be let out of my room with what was left of the culprit in his mouth. I think it may have been trying to get at Tad, since his dish was knocked off the wall.

Feel kinda sorry for it, but it happens. I'm still looking for how it got in. I think it may not have been wild, though? It looked black and white, from what I could make out.

I know the neighbors with the canaries were putting out rat traps in their yard recently, and the feral cat colony is drawing them in, so who knows.

Oh my god!!

I love rats, but...good dog. Sounds like Tad was saved in the nick of time.

What a terrifying thing to have happened. At least you know now what happened to poor sweet Freddie. :(

I'm glad everyone else is safe now. But I'd still lay out some humane traps, just in case.

I really do like rats, too. And I will do just that. I don't want more animals to get hurt.
