supposedly they burn out the cornea of birds?

Sorry, I didn't mean for use on birds, I mean I wonder how much uvb bulbs marketed for reptiles would output, seeing as how most reptiles need UVB, perhaps more so than birds do.

:) just wanted to clarify, in case someone thought it would be a good idea. I have family visiting tonight but tomorrow i'll set up the Avian Sun lamp which claims 5% of it's output is uvb.

Avian sun and the reptile sun bulb are the same bulb, just different packaging. I called the company and they confirmed this to me.

Years ago I called all the avian bulb companies. None emit uvb unless they are tanning bulbs and have a warning. I buy the featherbrites. Not for the uvb but because birds see in uva. :)

Now that's a reading. 15 minutes of that is more than weeks under a bulb.

@saroj12

I have a screened in porch I could take the amazons to but I thought it was useless to get sun in.

I don't even have that. The best I could do is get Wasabi into his Wingabago and sit outside on the back step with him, but there is no privacy outside with active neighbors here and there, plus their dogs. The Wingbago is not big enough for comfort.

You could get a stroller and take Wasabi for walks...

That is exactly the conclusion that I came too as well.

Am I wrong that for our bird to have full vision they would simply need a Color Temp of at least 5500k and a CRI of at least 90?

thats why I buy it to. That, and also just could not get the correct K rating on a local globe. Aussie
Daylight globes are only 5000K and no UVA

Good question, I was wondering this same thing.

Now I have no confidence is using indoor lighting. Its too hot to take my birds outside. Murphy has been in a molt for several months and I know he need it!

How hot is it? It's about 80 here and we still go out. I just spray them down to keep them cool and give them a bath, and keep them in the shade. Haven't panted at all.
