There are also different kinds of windows: single pane, double pane, triple pane.

You can also buy a special window that uvb can get through but I've heard it's very expensive.

Besides uva does penitrate window's, unless you have uv blocking film ...full spectrum is what is beneficial, infrared, far infared . 15 minutes in natural light a few times a week. Full spectrum lighting, overtime loses its efficacy.

thank goodness I didn't buy Feather-brite bulbs. I was considering it but a reading of zero??? my 2 get outside when it's not blazing hot on the deck in the summer. I will be showing this to Dr. Tony/ Dr. Barb tomorrow, because they are always recommending them. @VictoryCC124 Thank you @saroj12 for the research.

My grandson (toddler) would ring the doorbell, I'd open the door and he would look around me and ask for Opa (German for grandfather). I'd say "What am I? Chopped liver?" After several of these trips my son-in-law told me I had to stop saying that.....my grandson was referring to me as "chopped liver".

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.i have five featherbrites! Lately I've been taking them outside after work when the temperature gets reasonably cool at 85 degrees around 6:30 pm. Good to know that twice a week will suffice! I'll check the uvb in my screened flying room but the way uv beads weren't coloring up nicely so I'm not optimistic. The kings travel cages work great.

Ok I don't have a really sunny window yet, couple of hours to go. The flying room is double screened with noseeum fiberglass screen, plus the welded 2" x 1" ss wire. It registered a pathetic 1. Pointed at the 10am sun it registered 118, andright up at a mildly sunny single pane self washing glass window it said 0. We went out and had a good dose of uvb.

@saroj Dr. Tony was like holy smokes 0. they sell those bulbs at the clinic and he will have to talk to Dr. Barb about this. they have these lights in the bird area in the clinic, to help the birds. he was like why are we spending that kind of $$.$$ for 0 uvb.
