Eloy
I am very pleased to announce this month's showcased member Eloy with her setup for medium/large birds.
First of all I want to say that I'm flattered and didn't understand why you pick me. I don't have a fancy bird room, most of my setup is DIY because almost everything I wanted can't be bought in Sweden. We are not parrot people at all. I allow my birds to be everywhere they want, and Eloys favorite napping place is in the bathroom on his DIY shower perch.
Eloy is cage free, (Akela is not at the moment) and when I'm not at home he is in the kitchen. (secured area) He only sleeps at night in his cage.
1~ What kind of birds do you have and how many birds did you design your setup for?
I have two Pionus Maximilian parrot. And my setup is in all the rooms because my birds are what I call, free flying indoors.
2~ Is your setup for a handicapped bird?
No.
3~ Are there any budgeting tips you discovered while doing your setup?
Many things, but mostly use the nature, everything in the nature is for free, and recycle as much as you can.
4~ Is your setup changeable or stationary and do you add or make changes continually or do things stay primarily as is?
I change things all the time. Both in cage, in the net and in the big roof stand.
5~ Where did you find your materials if you made it yourself or where did you purchase the setup and do you have favorite places to purchase safe toys and/or supplies that you find reliable?
Again I said it, in the nature. (forest most) Both branches and pinecones that they really like to play with.
6~ Do you have a favorite item that you bought for your setup?
No.
7~ If you made any DIY toys what is your bird(s) favorite and were there any failures?
I think that they really love the net and the roof stand a lot.
I change branches twice a year, and here is what it looks like.
I made this table for the stand and also the ladders.
And a bigger natural DIY toy. LOL!
And another one! (using birch, apple and pear wood)
And I made two shower perches for them. (In SS and Birch wood)
And they are working like a charm.
8~ Did you incorporate into your setup any foraging toys and how did your bird(s) take to them and was age or inactivity a factor?
9~ What difficulties did you encounter, if any, and how did you remedy them?
10~ What do you like least about your set up (if anything)?
The outside cage if I must chose something.(At the moment Eloys sleeping cage indoors)
And also POOP, I don't like it at all. But perhaps that isn't a setup.. LOL!
11~ What do you like most about your setup?
That Eloy and Akela both seems to enjoying all the places that they have, and that they play a lot with the things I made for them.
12~ Did your bird(s) take to the setup right away or did they approach it tentatively needing time to adjust and do you feel their age was a factor?
Eloy is often with me when I make things for him and change branches in the cage and in the roof stand. Akela is the same. She is not afraid of anything, and she also like to play with all the new things.
I gave her a new boing some weeks ago and she flew to it directly and begin to play with it and climbing in it.
Under setup. Not so afraid I think..
Building the first net.
Changing branches in the roof stand.
13~ Any future renovations planned?
I want to upgrade both their indoor cages and also want a big outside aviary.
And if I someday become a millionaire I will buy Saroj's place.
