They are like 2 year olds that way too. They don't want the fun to end but they get cranky and tired trying to avoid bedtime. Nerd used to go in when he was ready, usually between 10 or 11 pm, we never covered him. Lurch used to fight it a bit and eventually adjusted to our much later schedule. Dobby would fly all over the place trying to avoid bedtime, he still tries to pick a spot to hide and roost and gets cranky and active just before bed time but he doesn't fly everywhere trying to avoid it anymore and will maybe fly off once or twice just to defend his dignity than allow one of us to carry him to his house. A couple of nights ago he just went in and settled in to roost, guess he was just too tired to fight it.
I think I got spoiled with Sunny. He liked going to bed. When it was his bedtime, it was his bedtime. LOL. He was done. Once about 15 minutes after I put him to bed, my neighbor came over with her young daughter wanting to see Sunny. I said well, I just covered him but maybe he'll still come out for a few minutes. I uncovered the front of his cage and started opening the cage door. He reached over and pulled the cage door shut with his beak, giving me this "don't bother me" look. LOL. But Sunny was also a senior birdie. Elvis, I think doesn't want to miss anything, and therefore doesn't want to go to bed. Just like a 2 year old.

Freddy has done that! Sometimes he gets in his cage and shuts the door behind him! That's funny, the first time Joe and I looked at each other and said ok then, night Freddy! Lol

One day my son was trying to get him to step up and he was snapping. My son asked what his problem was. I said really? It's not obvious?! He wants to be left alone!
