At 7 AM today Mark Mann and I talked on the phone about the two ss cages I've been wanting (needing)
Well, he said I can give him any design of my own invention and specs and he will personally make it and looks forward to the challenge. So I'm off to measure the specs on the Chiquitas and fine tune them (higher, wider), take pics and send them off to him.

That great! What are the adjustments/ideas you have in mind for the cages?

These 2 cages are for two small quakers.

1. It must be extremely sturdy. I should be able to put 25 lbs of items in it. So very strong welds!

2. There should be no places/spaces a leg band can get stuck in.

3. Bar spacing strictly 3/4" (or less) or their heads will poke out

4. The idea is to replicate their current Avian Adventures Chiquita cages as much as possible. Except they will be higher off the ground, and wider, and the food bowl holders will be safe rings, not an unsafe grid as it exists. Same dome shape. Same location of food dishes. Three food dishes are fine. Could we have one of them (the asymmetric one) to be a 30" bowl? The food bowl holder rings must be able to handle the weight of a filled water dish. No locations around the food bowl holders with unsafe gaps or wedges.

pic 1: the dome

peak height of dome 7 1/2". This can vary a bit for aesthetics, shape must be same.

pic 2.

bars run front to back. No angles between bars, just parallel bars

domeside.JPG

Space between bars no more than 3/4"

front.JPG

front door has a bottom railing and goes up to the start of the dome.
Width of door opening no less than 11". Wider if structural integrity is preserved.

What type of front door latch options do we have?

pic 4
The VERY IMPORTANT front railing

Cross section of this comfortable railing is 1/2" x 1/2". The quakers sit on these railings and watch the world go by :)

See the space circled between food doors? It is 4 1/2". You can make it a bit wider. We need that space. They use that space to climb down to the grate. My older quaker has neurological issues and spends 90% of her time on the grate. So the younger one does too, and they commune through the bars when i am out. :D

side1.JPG

Food door latches can be swinging triangles like the pic you sent, that is fine. These two bowls are 20 oz

Just one food bowl is fine. Let's make it a 30 oz bowl!

No breeder door required

side2.JPG

Depth of cage 24"

Width of cage 32"

Grate where they forage is 27" off the floor including casters (which should be able to handle frequent rolling on tile)

Interior height is 38" from grate to dome tippy top. We can make it a few inches more.

Then of course the standard bottom pull out tray.

Below the pullout tray there is a shelf around 6 or 7" off the floor. I'd like it o be able to handle several pounds of weight.

total height of cage from floor = 27 + 38 = 65"

I agree that the railing is an important factor. Emma likes her railing too and hangs out there all the time.:D

Can you show a closer up photo of what you mean by this?

*holders will be safe rings, not an unsafe grid as it exists*

yep

See the arrow...that is pointing to a quaker-head-wedgeable gap

Someone on some forum left the bowl out and had to hacksaw the holder to get their stuck bird out

The very BEST stainless steel cage on the market. Period.

It's interesting that people generally think 'tall' is best. Width is what is really important. Height is irrelevant.

I have the same cages, None of my Quakers have ever gotten stuck Where the food dishes go though, They have came out the food holder door when it was opened, they just climbed over the holder and out the door they came

but mine aren't "nosy" like some birdies I guess is how to say it

they know its their food and thats all they care about they don't care to go finding trouble in the cage - they do that out side the cage LOL

Hope he can do it, question though, if i read your post right you still want the grate at the bottom? is that for cleaning purposes? since you always cover with paper, i thought you might ask for a solid bottom - of course that can be pulled out?
