When I was struggling with Preeno's health (crop and respiratory infection), he had clicks and quiet chirps during the night. They were on and off too so I know how you feel.

With antibiotics, it's normal to see increased symptoms before your bird gets better! So stay positive and continue medicating for the stated period of time. Have you noticed any trends/patterns with his wheezing?

I recommend keeping a journal - note down what he eats and his activities, when the wheezing is worse, medicating and anything worth noting down. I did this when Preeno was poorly and it really helped me stay sane. It's also good to refer back to if needed, since you may not remember every single detail. I hope the medicating isn't too stressful?

Thank you so much. It's already made me feel so much better to hear increased symptoms are normal.

That's the thing! The only pattern I notice is that he wheezes in my room when he's going to sleep, or in the morning. He doesn't wheeze in the living room at all, no tail bobbing nothing, so I'm just confused. It's never after I do something either. I don't put deodorant or perfume on when he's in my room, I block the door if anything strong is going to be made in the kitchen so he doesn't get affected. I don't see any pattern. Just on and off in the mornings and now since he started his medicine he does it at night too.

It's also a little scary since he's moulting so his energy is already low. He sits in his cage all day and keeps his head down, but the vet said that could just be the sickness or his moult.

I guess I'm also scared because the vet doesn't even know if it is an infection or something else. She said it could be tumours, iodine deficiency or goitres too but that it would be very rare since he's still a baby, so it's just a waiting game right now

Id your vet an avian vet? She might need to do some other testing. I would go with what the vet says for now, maybe you could call another vet and schedule another appointment with a different one to see their opinions?

Could it be his cage that is causing irritation to his breathing? I wonder if the moulting is adding to it too. Is he more active in the living room?

What meds are you giving him and how long for?

Yes she is! Well, they all are. We take the birds to a bird vet around 30 minutes away from home. I'm going to see how he does on this course of medicine before taking any more steps though as specialist vets can be pricey and I'd like to give this treatment a proper go!

Hmmm maybe? I've never heard of a cage causing reactions. In the living room he's still got his cage, but we open it up and give him access to the whole place, as well as his perch. He spends most time inside his cage though, or sitting on top of it somewhere. He'll occasionally climb onto the perch and hang out for a while there too, but like I said he's had low energy I think from being sick and moulting. That's what the vet believes too so we're seeing how we go.

He's on 0.03mls of Meloxicam and Entrofolaxin for a week. Both meds twice a day

How is he today?

Preeno had Meloxicam too during his second round of meds and it helped. I hope it does the same for Blueberry too :)

Thank you so much. It's still the same day, just night time now so he's sleeping.

I just came into my bedroom now and he seems to be silent which is good, but it's too early to say now since it's usually on and off so we'll need to see how we go.

I’m so glad to hear he seems better, and I’m hoping along with you.
:heart2:
Thank you!! I keep telling all my family to pray he gets better on the treatment :laughing2:

He seemed to be silent all through last night and I didn't hear anything from him this morning either! Hopefully it wasn't a fluke and his medicine really is working.

I'm about to give him his morning dosage now. I hope you all have a great day, will update once he's finished his course of medicine.

Okay, he was silent throughout the night and this morning but once I got closer I could hear him breathing so it seems he's still struggling because I also noticed his tail is bobbing now. I'm just hoping the medicine will get to work ASAP because I hate seeing him this way. He isn't puffed up and he's not hanging out at the bottom of his cage though so there are some positives I suppose

How many days left for the meds?

Preeno was similar - I could only hear the quiet chirps if I had my ear on the cage and he had a bit of tail bob. I would say continue the meds and observe the symptoms. If it gets worse and he's really struggling to breathe (bigger tail bob, fluffed up, inactive etc.) then it's time to go back to the vet.

Yeah for sure. If he's still stick at the end of treatment I'm going to give them a call to see if I should continue meds until they finish or if I should bring him in for another consult.

He started Thursday so that means he's got 2 more days on meds not including today. He should have his last dosage on Wednesday I think since that makes 7 days.

He looks so miserable. This is the first and last time I buy from a pet store. He specialises in birds too and Blueberry has been sickly since we got him. Unacceptable.

Poor Blueberry! I hope he feels better soon:sadhug2:

Is he still eating and drinking?
Thank you so much lovely.

He is. He's had some breakfast and a sip of water and seems to be a little more perked up thankfully. He's preening currently, had a nibble of his toys and some of the wood on their giant perch but he's back in his cage after having some more food. His bob is gone too but he could he masking? I don't know, but he seems to be doing better thankfully.

is it possible you can just keep him out of the room that seems to be affecting his breathing?

If its not happening in any other room, I would just keep him out of there. Maybe there is an underlying mold issue something else you arent aware of? Something is affecting him in that room.

I've been thinking about this a lot to be honest. I'm just not sure where to put him since everyone in the house has carpeting in their bedroom which I feel like could be what's aggravating the condition or causing it so I'd be more comfortable if he were in an area with tile like the living room. But we have cats who come inside at night and I don't want Blueberry to be hanging out in the living room if the cats are going to be there too. I'm trying to figure something out.
