That sounds like it..and he is quite the little "Tarzan-My cage" birdie ;) In unrelated events, I FINALLY found how to get him back on the cage without hands when hes being stubborn! If I put a little millet on the door (not inside) where he can immediately see it, then sit down facing the door (both shoulders accessible to the door) he hops up Happily for his yummy little sprig of crack! WOOT WOOT! He is so funny..sometimes I run over and he scurries over to see me, then a few minutes later I walk over to play nice and he scurries back into the cage like im the boogie man. SIlly bird.... but while on my arm (not on the cage..if I try to touch him while he is on the cage I get severely scolded) I was able to wipe cobwebs he had flown into out of his crest before he realized where my hand was...I consider that a HUGE leap forward :) He did tell me off nano-seconds afterwards but then hopped to my shoulder so apparently he wasnt too upset with me

So this is the perch we bought Pearl when we first got him and he only had one but sandpaper perch and over dowel. Apparently, it's good enough to nap on now  we attached the rope perch on the outside of the cage like a ramp to the top (you can sort of see it in the left corner of the one picture). He avoided it like it was a sleeping Cobra for weeks. I attached millet to it and that just drove him crazy but still no dice. So one night were sitting here doing our evening things and out of the corner of my eye I see him eyeing the bottom of that rope which meets the cage next to the open door. And up he steps! And then off... And then on... And then off... Pearl is doing stair aerobics! <"Staying alive" starts playing> he proceeds to do this like 15 times "look ma!! No hands!!" :hehe: so I attached some millet again. my brazen user of hands in his vicinity earned me a telling off but when the crack was discovered, there was renewed interest in the rope! I've since attached millet twice higher and higher and Pearl is happily making a millet mess :) rope perch accomplished!!

We Giggle when he hears something he isn't expecting and he goes skinny bird mode! He's been noisier than usual but I have been away for day trips and I think he's feeling a little neglected as well as uncomfortable with the molt. Right now he's sitting on the cage for preening but almost falling asleep while he does it :) a little birdie narcolepsy ..and of course the day wouldn't be complete without a visit to his reflection in the water bowl ;)

Happy Thanksgiving! Pearl is doing great.. We are 6 months of living with us and <drum roll> he let me *sort* of snuggle him! He was on my hand.. Still a rare moment because he will head for my shoulder as soon as he touches me usually... But he let me get close and I was allowed to rub his head with my nose. He didn't even protest, just did the "gosh I like you" noise <3
It may have just been a mini moment but it sure felt awesome for him to let me be affectionate! He still sticks mostly to the cage.. The tail feathers grew back in and then he lost one last night and skewed the other one in a weird moment of bird alarm at the bottom of the cage. On the up-side, crash bandicoot is learning to control his landings better and was able to navigate a smooth landing on the blanket rack access the living room. I'm a proud mama! At this rate, we'll maybe have a fully socialised little feathered baby in about 6 yrs ;) chuckle.. but seriously, even though I don't think we have 6yrs with him, I think he's happy. He greets me through the blanket in the morning and stretches and yawns adorably, he sings himself to sleep more often and is happy to be covered for bed (unless my husband does it, then he tells him off for daring to cover his cage instead of me, lol). But he still acts like he's going to eat my hands most of the time. Can't win them all. I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving!

Happy Hanukkah and almost Merry Christmas! I'm hoping it will let me lost up the cutest start to your morning :) P Earl spent a good 15min enjoying the toy in his cage to rub his pin cushion head. The sheer enjoyment was so evident on his little face ❤ I wish I could get the video up but I'll see if I can make it into a gif.

Considering everything, he seems to be doing pretty well. I wish he didn't seem to be in the eternal molt but otherwise, he seems happy.. Picky eater, but happy

Seeing that picture of "Pearl" reminds me of my late Tomi Girl. If she was with the flock, she was mostly hands off. Alone, she was more hands on and would want scritches. If she wanted them and wasn't receiving, she'd put her head against a toy and do the same! So cute!

Thanks for keeping us updated on him! :D
