I was doing some research and such on various parrot species and came across these pictures of a red fan boy.

I've never seen a red fan colored this way. Anyone know what's going on?
Is it just baby feathers or something?

He's really quite beautiful. <3

Almost looks like stress bars. I wonder how old he is, and what diet he is on.

Their stress bars make them turn blue? :O

I am talking about the black, not the blue. I don't know. But there are variances in colors, even among birds who are generally all the same color. Some may have a unique look. He is pretty.

Hm.
I found this video of one.
He appears a bit plucked and is also more blue.

So maybe it is a stress thing after all?
That would be interesting.

I have seen big differences in the eyes and eye patches too. Jill and I had several discussions about it. Cochise has maintained the dark baby eyes, where most get golden eyes as they age. The skin patch gets dark when they are exposed to sunlight.

I remember reading something somewhere here about Cochise's baby eyes. Strange, but cute.
The skin thing is true for a lot parrots with eye rings, yes? I've heard it discussed with sun conures and caiques.

It's all very interesting. :3
