WOUNDED LOBEBIRD IN ITALY

Hi you,
my father has two lovebirds. We thought they were a couple, but it seems they are two males, of different ages. They get along well. Last year one of them injured himself at the base of his wing. Since then he hasn't healed because he keeps picking at the wound as soon as it heals. The other one also picks at his wound from time to time, but it's more himself. We have consulted various vets here in Turin and the surrounding area (Italy), but they give us different advice and none of them work. We have tried putting saline solution, oil recommended by the vet, even Betadine, but the wound closes a little and reopens continuously. We even separated them for a while, but things didn't change. We don't know what to do and we are very worried. Can someone give us the "right" advice? Is it possible that there is nothing to do?
Thank you in advance

I'm surprised your vet didn't cone/collar your lovebird. A plastic or fabric cone/collar should prevent him/her from picking at the wound.

I agree that I would be looking at using a cone or collar of some sort to prevent access to the wound so it has an opportunity to heal

We have seen these collars on the web, but they advised us against them, saying that they are useless because they tear off. However, if you tell us about them now, we will certainly give them a try.
Can you suggest any particular type or brand of collars?
Thank you very much
Gianni

Use a soft collar and then clean the wound daily with clorhexidina (chlorhexidine)

You can make a collar yourself with some felt or thick fabric and a button to close it.
