Hi there,

I am thinking of getting a 12 week old quaker parrot which has been hand raised by someone else.

Will it be too late now for the parrot to get used to me or shall I opt for a younger parrot?

You don't need a younger bird to to bond with them.

My best connections with birds have been ones over 10 years old.

12 weeks is still a very young impressionable baby.

Many people actually believe that it is easier to cement a long term relationship with a parrot that you did not raise from a hatchling (both ways are certainly possible) as in nature it is part of the life cycle to leave the parent at a certain age.

I got my cockatiel as a baby that I finished hand feeding and weaned. I think he now more so sees me as "mom" and thus bonded very well to my partner. He still likes me, but he LOOOOVES my partner.
