It has been a year since Ducky came and joined us in our home. Boy oh Boy have there been changes in that year!!
A year ago, we brought home a scared, biting, unfriendly cockatoo. One who had zero trust in humans. Why should he? The put him in too small of a cage, clipped his wings to the point he would fall and hurt himself. When he wouldn't step up, they toweled him. Forcing him into a places he was uncomfortable and then blamed him when he lashed out. He was fed a diet of seed, and junk food. His beak, which needs constant trimming was left too be overgrown...why should he trust anyone?
A year goes by so slow, and yet so quick. In that year he has learned that people are not so bad. Some people are even worthy of your trust.
A bird that refused to step up, will now gladly step up for you.
A bird that was scared of hands, will now tap dance on your fingers if you allow him.
A bird that would eat nothing but junk food and seeds. Will now eat pellets and at least toy with his veggies...
A bird that trusted no one. Will now allow even small children to stroke his soft feathers ~ when he is in the mood of course.
Ducky has come so very far...Every day he does something else that amazes us. From becoming more confident with his flying, to helping out with chores...Ducky makes us laugh, makes us cry, and sometimes makes us pull our hair out...but he is, and forever will be. A much loved member of our family.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped us, encouraged us, and told us we where crazy. Without your help we would never have made it this far...Okay, maybe we would...but probably minus a few fingers.
Ducky just after we got him...
