Well this is weird.

This feather shaft came out this morning. No idea where from, exactly - She's been preening all over.

It looks cut though - could this be one of the clipped wing feathers? Why's it empty? Does the feather... Uh... Filling(?) fall out when a feather is cut? It's also REALLY hard! If I tried to bend it I think it might actually snap, there doesn't seem to be any give to it.

Ignore my dry skin. I've been cleaning.

Yeah the blood supply recedes in a feather once it's done growing and leaves it mostly hollow. It looks more apparent on large flight feathers

She could have snipped it herself, it's really high up for it to be from a clip.

It looks like a molted flight feather shaft that was scissor cut to me. JaKhu was heavily clipped when I got her & this is what hers looked like when they molted out.

yes it is normal for the shaft to become "empty:
I also think it is a molted feather that has been previously clipped.

Yeah, she was super clipped when I first got her - really short and pretty jagged looking. It looked horrible I know she had new flight feathers coming in, so I guess one pushed out an old cut shaft. It's just so weird looking!

I'll have to get updated photos of her wings today, y'all won't believe the difference between now and three months ago. It's wild!
