Meeting neighbors
For those who know me, you will most likely remember Kianna. She came to us about 9 years ago and had had a previously broken leg that continued to give her problems. Then about 3 years ago she decided she liked Mambo another of our B&G's.
They have been buddies for 3 years with no issues. Then about 3 months ago Mambo was trying to bite the inner cage bars above the food dish and Kianna was outside the cage in the same place and when he bit down he pinned her bad leg between his beak and the cage bars and clamped down.
For a few days there was no major swelling or anything to indicate a problem, then her leg swelled massively so off to the vets. It was not broken again but fractured and the buildup around the old mend was shattered and causing the swelling with ever bit of weight she placed on the leg.
After numerous vet visits and meds the one blood test that couldn't be done in house came back, showing she also had a blood infection that was so far into her bones that we weren't sure what we would be able to do for her.
Change of meds and foods, and she seemed to be doing great for about 2 weeks. Then June23rd she was very quiet, and I heard her lose her balance and jumped up to find her hanging on the side of her cage and I grabbed her up and she had 2 seizures and died in my arms in minutes.
This has honestly been the hardest thing I have ever dealt with. I have had birds for close to 20 years and have never lost one this way. Our vet thinks that it was a blood clot as we opted to not do a necropsy since there was no danger to our other birds.
I have been completely heart broken over this and devastated. I know a few of you are also on my FB so have seen this and I so appreciate all the hugs and notes from you all they have helped tremendously!
