Dear Cash, please get better. Drink up that Gatorade and tell the very what is wrong so he can help. Give your mommy lots of hugs and kisses and and try not to scare her any more. :hug8:

Do you know for a fact that she is only 4 months old? Don't mean to be cynical but people have been known to lie. Please have the vet check her. Praying that you will be able to figure this out. Did you look under the bed to see what was under there? Could it be some kind of spider or snake bite?

Ginger

I know, for a fact, she's four months. I've been handling her since she was three-weeks. I just got home from the specialist. She's had a stroke, and lost all mobility in her right side. X-rays came back clean, as well as her bloodwork, so it's purely neurological.

He also gave me a big boost of encouragement by stating she's in the most beautiful, healthy feather he's ever seen. And he deals with a lot of parrots.

He told me she may regain the mobility on the side with therapy; her youth and health are on her side. She may not, though. But I'm prepared to deal with that. For now, I'm letting her rest in her carrier while I collect myself and rearrange her cage. She'll be going in to the local clinic every week for a steroid shot to help with her recovery.

I am so sorry your little baby had a stroke. I know you will be a great mommy and be sure that she gets the best care she could ask for. You are lucky she is still with you and I know she is thankful to have you as her mommy. Best of luck to both of you. I will keep her in my prayers and I truly hope she gets full mobility back. :hug8:Hugs for you and Cash.

Oh dear. Hopefully with her young age she can get past this entire thing and never have any more issues with it.
So sorry you have to deal with all of this, I know the sort of stress going through this sort of thing can give.
I know it is slightly different, but my 15yr old dog has seizures and every one of them gets me so scared for her.
Good Luck with the therapy.

I'm a former vet-assistant, and my mother is a nurse. Between the two of us, she couldn't have picked a better home. We're well-equipped to handle it if she never regains the use of that side. It breaks my heart, though. She can fly, still, but it's tilted and awkward--and she can't land safely. Which means I may have to make the hard decision to clip her wings.

Cash's breeder is an amazing woman, and met me at the clinic. She cried with me, too. Cash is under a five-year health warranty from her. She looked at me and went: "I know what the answer is already, but I'm obligated to ask: do you want me to replace her, because of the contract?" I just gave her a look.

I owe a lot to Cash. She found a tumor on my spine, and forced me to take care of myself. It's only fair I take care of her.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and well-wishing. A miracle really did happen today. Our regular avian vet didn't expect Cash to live long enough to /see/ the specialist. But by the time we made it to him, she was more mobile and peeping quietly--trying to get my attention. I feel blessed, right now.

I need it again, Kat. And yeah, I've been a mess. I can't even eat anything. I've been on the move with Cash since 10AM.

:hug8::hug8: Did the specialist have any idea what would cause a stroke in such a young bird?

WOW your breeder has quite the long health guarantee! That is fantastic!

Wow Liz, I'm so sorry to hear about Cash, but you handled it all so well. And they wiggle their way into our hearts so quickly don't they. You're doing a great thing doing what you can to help her through this.

Prayers that Cash continues to improve and hugs for you :hug8:

He didn't know, and he said we may NEVER know. Her left side isn't doing too great either, but she has more mobility with it than the right.

Ms. Carol, my breeder, is amazing. I've been meaning to make a post about her here. She runs the zoo's aviary here locally, and runs a private rescue. She takes in 'problem' birds. Aggressive, mutilators, pluckers, the whole works, and rehabillitates them. If they don't get rehomed, they stay with her. She is, truly, a wonderful person.

And she doesn't mass-breed. She only has one clutch of GCCs, and one clutch of CAGs a year. They're raised in her home; she let me be part of Cash's life since she was a naked little dinosaur. And when I couldn't make it out there to visit, she brought Cash out to my house for us to have time together before she was ready to come home. I talk to her every day.
