Tonight's Rescue

A friend found this little puffball on the ground at a very busy stable late this afternoon. I drove out to their place tonight to pick the little guy up.

My friend is pretty sure it is some type of Swallow because there are quite a lot of these hanging around the place.

He is still very young and his eyes have not yet opened.

So I gave him a couple of feedings of Insectivore Mix and he is now tucked into a brooder for tonight.

He'll be coming with me to the Wildlife Hospital tomorrow. Hopefully we can either reunite him with his parents or pass him on to a wildlife carer for handraising and release.

I'm glad he will be safe and taken care of. Great job on saving him.

I wish I knew how to help wild birds. Each year I find at least a couple of live baby birds that fell out of their nest. They are usually much younger than the bird in the picture.

The little baby was identified as a Welcome Swallow. He went home with a wildlife carer today for handraising, rehabiliation and eventually release. He is in good hands!

Here's a few photos of me giving him a feed this morning before we left. He is in his transport box and the blue mat underneath him is a heatpad to keep him warm for the journey (these heatpads are lifesavers)!

Oh and guess what... He opened his eyes on the way over to the hospital!
