Thank you my dear. That chapter in my life is over. So many things are different now. It's not just the birds. I try to stay positive but it's very difficult. I love you all.
I hope you get some positive things coming your way positive things you want and deserve

Hey, John. Just got back from visiting family in Ohio. For Thanksgiving. When I got home after being away for two nights, and was greeted my birds, I suddenly began thinking of you. Then I began thinking of all the things I'm grateful for. I'm grateful you were a member of the Avenue when I joined. I'm thankful that your posts were always direct, honest and to-the-point, yet they were never mean or judgemental. I'm thankful for all the advice and knowledge you shared. I'm thankful for all the photos you shared. I'm thankful for all the things I learned from you. I'm thankful that you taught me how to see things through my bird's eyes. I'm thankful that I got to know you even just a little over the last 7 and a half years. And I'm mad as hell that this happened to you. My heart breaks for you.

So glad I popped in and saw your gratitude post. I have the same thankfulness for John and all the years he contributed to the forum. Very well missed but knowing you are still out there in the universe is comforting in its own way. Though... what I wouldn't give for a healthy dose of "Johnitude" to warm my heart. Love you John... blessings, hugs, and the fortitude to carry on with strength.

Hate it when I do a boo boo headed post. So I'm pasting my reply to Alien J to make sure it doesn't get missed by John...

Your birds are beautiful. I’m so sorry about the accident that happened. Your grief must have been very great. But I hope that you have healed now and I hope you look back on the times and memories and good times you have given your babies. They might be flying in heaven now, but they are watching you with their little pin eyes as you live life day to day. I hope you have a good day.

A new year is here and I've been thinking about this comment you made. I think, John, that your life with birds was far more than a chapter in your life. It's my understanding that your life intertwined with birds at a young age and remained so up until now. Many beings, people and animals. walk onto our path in life. Some just cross over it for a moment. Some walk along with us for awhile. Some leave an indelible impression and may even change the course of our path. At that moment our path and their path are the same path. So many other's paths join ours at one point or another. So many that we certainly don't remember even a fraction of them. Some, we think will walk along with us till the end of our path. Looking back, I know their are things I thought would be with me always. I thought they permanent, that they would always be in my life. Now I can barely remember their faces. But, I'm still glad that our paths joined for the time that they did.

I guess I really don't know what I'm trying to say. I don't know why things like what happened to you and your wife and your birds happen. I don't know who or what or why these types of things are thrown onto our path. But birds are in you, John. They may even be part of your DNA now! They are surely a part of your essence. I think it's not the end of a chapter. Just as terrible, awful things appear on our path, so do many good and beautiful things join us. I hope many good things are just around the corner on your path. May many beings with wonderous souls be on paths that merge with yours as you continue your journey into the future.

I'm just a rambling old lady. But I continue to have you in my thoughts daily and I truly wish all good things for you and your family in this new year. Love and miss you on the Avenue, John. You are truly one of a kind and the absence of your presence is sorely felt.

Hello all. It has been a while now since I've been an actively participating member in this wonderful community. Life has its bumps and turns. Some are bigger than others and some are gaping holes. I joined this forum 14 years ago. I’ve known so many members over the years. Some are still around. Many are not. Many of you know me. Many do not. I would like think that some of the things I've posted and written about over the years has helped many birds and their owners.

I feel I owe it to those who do know me that may wonder why I just sort of stopped participating. I won't go into much detail and I'm not looking for any pity. It's just the facts of life.

Life has been hard and even life changing for many many people everywhere the last few years. Everyone knows. The world is a different place.

About 18 months ago my wife fell and suffered a pretty severe brain injury. A severe and on going issue. There is no free time any more between caring for her, earning a living (she also can not work anymore) and trying to give my birds what they need.

About a couple of months ago now, (It's taken this long just to get the courage to tell people) my wife was feeling quite well that day so we decided to go out for a nice dinner. I put all the birds to bed in their sleep room like always. Closed the door and we left for the evening.

Upon arriving home and opening the door I could smell smoke. WTF. I ran to the bird room. Something in the air purifier shorted out and started to smoke. It did trip the breaker at some point but not before filling the room with smoke. It killed them all. I just wanted to let everyone know.

To my beloved birds. Tika. Amanda. Mr. Chirpy. Hal. ScooterX. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again.
Hear our cherished birds prayer and give your birds a giant hug from uncle John.

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry for your loss. Words cannot express how I feel for you.
Thank you for letting us know about the dangers of the Air purifier.
I have one that I run all the time where my Casper is located and I will be putting this on timer now that I can control and monitor from my phone.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. I hope your wife is improving daily as well. ❤

You may be a rambling old lady (not) but I understand the words you wrote completely. I hear and feel them. There may be a time when I enter that world again but the current situation and obligations make it impossible.

Let's throw another log on the disaster fire. On top of everything else my wife broke her arm last week. No joke. What's next?

Oh dear! That's so awful for her. Somehow... I feel related to her! At the least, she and I seem to have the same accident karma. I have a great fear of falling again and I feel her pain. Have you seen my X-rays? Definitely cringeworthy and I have enough metal in my leg and hip to make an airport screening detector scream loud enough for the whole airport to come to a screeching halt. I think you should give her a thousand kisses all over her face to show her we all think about her, love her and send the most positive healing vibes.

I saw this and thought about you. Reminded me of a neat spinning wheel I shared quite a while back for birds to have fun on. This one was a little bit different of design for a feeder but knowing only you could put your own special "John" spin for an entertainment center for some smaller birds. Tinkering is good for the soul. I do admit to losing my desire to paint after I broke my femur. Then breaking my hip has caused me an immense amount of depression... so much so I am not the social bird I used to be. When I do pop in I forget my troubles and enjoy reading some posts and giving my 2 cents for what ever it's worth. The avenue does have food for the spirit and am always glad you do pop in. Here's a little screenshot of what I saw in a video when I thought of you. The wheel would spin when the birds landed on the little feeders.

We can't help but miss you.

So sorry for your wife's broken arm. It's a blessing that she has you though since you can do the cooking and washing dishes now?

By the way, I had a sister-in-law that fell and broke BOTH arms at the same time.

I am so sorry to hear of your ongoing trials. Please make sure to take some time for yourself when your wife is laying down etc. you do not want to burn out and become sick yourself. Often think of you and wish you were here with the rest of us loonies. We miss you around here that’s for sure.

I hope your wife's arm heals quickly. It certainly seems like when it rains, it pours, and we get bombarded with things. I hope your storm is over soon and that you have sunshine and rainbows in your near future. We miss you.
