Hello all. It has been a while now since I've been an actively participating member in this wonderful community. Life has its bumps and turns. Some are bigger than others and some are gaping holes. I joined this forum 14 years ago. I’ve known so many members over the years. Some are still around. Many are not. Many of you know me. Many do not. I would like think that some of the things I've posted and written about over the years has helped many birds and their owners.

I feel I owe it to those who do know me that may wonder why I just sort of stopped participating. I won't go into much detail and I'm not looking for any pity. It's just the facts of life.

Life has been hard and even life changing for many many people everywhere the last few years. Everyone knows. The world is a different place.

About 18 months ago my wife fell and suffered a pretty severe brain injury. A severe and on going issue. There is no free time any more between caring for her, earning a living (she also can not work anymore) and trying to give my birds what they need.

About a couple of months ago now, (It's taken this long just to get the courage to tell people) my wife was feeling quite well that day so we decided to go out for a nice dinner. I put all the birds to bed in their sleep room like always. Closed the door and we left for the evening.

Upon arriving home and opening the door I could smell smoke. WTF. I ran to the bird room. Something in the air purifier shorted out and started to smoke. It did trip the breaker at some point but not before filling the room with smoke. It killed them all. I just wanted to let everyone know.

To my beloved birds. Tika. Amanda. Mr. Chirpy. Hal. ScooterX. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again.
Hear our cherished birds prayer and give your birds a giant hug from uncle John.

Oh John,I just have no words. I'm sitting here crying trying to think of what to type and everything just seems so hollow and insignificant.
I'm just so incredibly sorry for your losses and for the tragedy that befell your wife. I sincerely hope that she'll be able to heal and improve with everyday and that you'll be able to find peace with your incredible losses that you've suffer.
You'll both be in my thoughts.

Oh goodness, I can only imagine with how hard that was for me to read just how hard it must have been for you to write and live through. I am so sorry John for your loss and the changes you and your wife are learning to live with.
Thinking of you and sending you both all my loving thoughts.

I’m so sorry. This is terrible. I hope your wife improves or at least remains stable. I wish you both courage.

When your own time comes, it won’t just be the angels who welcome you. Your birds & the birds of countless others whose lives you improved with your creations will come.

When you hold a handmade object, you can tell things about whomever made it. I have some of yours & know in my soul you did your best by your birds as you did by mine. Please don’t beat yourself up over this. You did your best. And they know.

:sorrow:

John,
This is a lot. You've dealt with a lot before, but all this - I just don't know how you wrap your head around it.
I wish you all the bravery, compassion, strength, and peace you need to go forward. And a little extra too.

I can't imagine how terrible that must feel. I can't put it into words - when we love an animal, we understand them, we see their beauty and unique personalities. But they knew they were loved, I promise that they can tell, and wherever they are now, they love you and know that they are loved. This wasnt your fault, please take care of yourself.

John, I am so very sorry for all of your losses. You cared so much for them all, and it was even clear to those whose knew you only through the internet. I know that it is cliche, but try to hold onto the beautiful memories that you created over the years. I know that it has helped me in the past.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. I can't even imagine. That's so much to have happen in such a short time. I just... I'm so sorry.
