Sleeping All The Time?

Recently i’ve noticed my pair (female and male) of zebra finches have been sleeping almost all day. The only time i see them awake is when they’re eating. They’re always sleeping next to each other too. I have no idea what’s going on, is it the heat or something? Usually they’re up and about jumping and singing, but recently there has been nothing. I’m lost, help?

They need to see a vet if they are sleeping all the time. This sounds like lethargy to me.

Does she have an egg or something that they might be sitting on? It sounds very "nesty."

Yes, now i have noticed that they are taking turns on an egg, but why would this stop them from singing, it hasn’t before.

I bet they are busy and tired. Maybe add some egg food to be sure they have enough protein.

If they’re sleeping during the day they are ill.

Call the vet and FIND OUT if they’re open; ours is open.

I agree with @Monaco that some extra protaein is in order; raising an egg is hard work. Hard boiled egg can be mixed with plain bread crumbs, or you cn purchase commercial egg food. When mine have eggs, they get access to this 24/7.

Can you tell us about their diet?

I’ve watched a little closer and am now seeing them beep and act normally. Usually they sit on their eggs for a few days, throw them out, and just restart the cycle.. I don’t think they’re good parents. I feed seed with veggies and fruits as often as possible. (Usually daily) I tried chop but they weren’t a fan. They get boiled egg quite often. I also give crushed shells for calcium. Can egg food be stored in the fridge if made in large quantity? I usually just give fresh boiled egg when i do feed egg.

Yes, egg food ca be store for several days in the fridge. I too give hard boiled egg or scrambled egg.

You might want to add a little variety into their diet. I’m going to make a slightly random list, it’s in no particular order.
To vary the protein - (because you can’t give egg every day) quinoa, dried mealworms, crushed raw nuts of any kind except peanuts
Beans, cooked and mashed: Garbanzo, adzuki, and lentils are safe choices.

Some other grains to try: oats (mine don’t like them), rice, kamut, teff.

Do i offer these everyday? Can I do a theme like beans this week and quinoa next week or does that defeat the purpose?

You could but you want to provide as much variety as possible. That’s the point.

I made a food pyramid let me find it
