Seashells as toy parts?

Last time I was at the beach, I picked up a bunch of shells. I have since disinfected them and sanded off any sharp bits. Has anyone used shells before or have any thoughts on whether they are safe or not?
They're mostly made of calcium so I think it should be ok but I'm always cautious when it comes to giving them homemade toys.

The only problem I can think of is him chewing sharp bits off and swallowing them.

I have seen toys with them in shops and online,I have never tried them out though as Yoshi doesn’t like those types of toys.

It's a personal preference when using them. They are safe if properly cleaned but yes, they can be sharp. My guys love them and smash the crud out of them.

Thank you all for the advice I'll try one and keep an eye on it. Can't wait to see what kind of noises it makes in the wee hours of the morning
