My little nanday Scout has been with me for one year now. Who knew she would be such a sweet bird? I never intended to keep her. I saw her on cl in a tiny round cage, looking unkempt and sad. Her feathers were very matted, filthy and literally coated in old pin feathers. From the minute I got her home, she just wanted to be snuggled. I held her against my chest every night after work, rocking her and cleaning her pin feathers, for the first week. She didnt know how to perch on my finger and was weak.
I found out at the vet office that she had a broken wing. We found bumblefoot later that needed antibiotics. I have kept her in an avian adventures mediana cage, but she is a very long bird and I wanted something bigger. I have two other EH cages (for my maroon belly conure and caique). I spent a good part of today setting Scout's cage up. It is 48"x30". I think she likes it. She is moving around quite a bit, which is good. She is a very clumsey bird (I think from being confined to a small cage previously) and it is good she has space to safely maneuver. These aren't great pics, but here is my affectionate little doll in her new cage:
Being brave and perching on IGAW toy (I had to entice her with some of my clothes -she loves chewing on them):
All three cages. I try to space them so everyone gets a view out the window:
While filling the cage, after the dangerous building stuff was done, I gave in to the pleas and cries from these two brats from their cages. They knew something was going on and NEEDED to investigate. They immediately started exploring, while Scout was clearly distressed by the commotion (I built the cage away from her, so it wouldnt scare her).
Zeek the caique, in his cage:
Rocky, in her cage:
