Hello all, it has been a while since I've posted here but i don't believe i remember seeing anyone mention the dangers of paneling with parrots.
Let me tell my story.
As some of you know i have a U2 named Butter who ive had since i was 12yo (im 21 now).
at the end of 2021 myself and my partner adopted a 32 year old lesser sulfer crested cockatoo named Sunny, he was awesome and probably the best bird I've ever met or bonded with. we had a pair bond and he was wonderful with everyone in the household, we took him places all the time and provided him with a 6×12 foot cage to roam.
The cage is a large hand built cage with 2 cage bar walls and 2 regular walls that are just paneling. now he lived in this cage with no problems up until inbetween christmas and new years 2022, he chewed himself inbetween the paneling and the wall. before this he hadn't chewed on the paneling. He got stuck, panicked, and had a heart attack INSIDE THE WALL. to the best of my knowledge this is what happened. he was gone within an hour of seeing him alive and well. we saw him, left to the store for an HOUR. and came back to that horrific scene.
PLEASE DO NOT LET PANELING WALLS BE IN YOUR BIRD CAGES NO MATTER HOW LARGE THE BIRD.
we are absolutely heartbroken and crushed, we don't really know how we're supposed to recover from such a traumatic passing. I just don't want anyone else's bird falling to the same fate.
