My dog Rocky has a lump on her back. My poor baby has been threw enough with her eye problems. I found a big lump on her back and I have no clue what it is. Of course it’s the weakened but Im calling as soon as they open tomorrow and getting her in. She had surgery to remove her eye and got threw that with flying colours, Im just scared she will have to have another operation and what Im most petrified of is that it’s cancer. I don’t know how I would handle that. She is such a good dog with her eye drops but HORRIBLE at the vets, lol. She barks like crazy and is like she owns the office. With her sister Jack, they are a tag team of trouble. But just cross your fingers for me it all goes well tomorrow. Im trying not to stress to much about it but that’s my little girl.

couple questions - is it firm or 'mushy'

does it seem tender when you touch it

can you move it around or does it stay in one place?

Don't panic yet. Lot's of older dogs get "fatty tumors". Your vet will be able to do a needle aspirate and look under the scope and tell you if it's fatty tissue or has some cells. I know it's hard not to worry, but these lumps are not uncommon.

Oh I hope it's nothing...my 16 year old lab Coco has those fatty lumps...my vet told me no need to worry...I hope that's what it is with your baby.

Thanks for your prayers, Im going to call the vet today at 8:30am when they open and try to get her in today. Usually I get in because my vet know how bad of a worry wart I am.
Thanks Annie, that makes me feel much better.

Gg It is in between hard and mushy. It is movable but you have to try hard to move it. It does not seem tender what so ever and is not bugging her at all. I can move it if I try.

Thanks Cindy, Im glad I now know it can just be a fatty tumor. My vet will probably do that today. My poor baby but that dog is a tough one, she is a fighter for sure. It hurts me more, lol.

Yes, Leslie I hope that’s all it is but Im not taking any chances and bringing her in. I think older dogs get it and she is 7 years old but I never think of them as old because there are so hyper. They act like puppies.

I hope it goes well for you. Let us know how he is?

Rocky gets into the vets today at 9am, as soon as I get home I will post back right away and tell you what he says. He had an emergency operation yesterday. Rocky is doing well, she is in bed sleeping, lol. Right under the covers.

I just got back from the vets, there is good news and bad news.

I will start with the good news. The lump is just fatty deposits. Nothing at all and nothing to worry about, it’s not cancer and we don’t have to worry about it. No operations or anything, YEA! Im so relieved. I just had to make sure.

Now the bad news. He said her other eye my have to come out soon. We go to London and he said she is ok for now. We have a controversy here. Dr. Quin is in London, the specialist and Dr. Branton is my vet here in Windsor. He said she could be in pain right now and we don’t know how much pain she is in because they hide it so well. They can’t tell us and we all know they hide pain. Im scared! I don’t know what to do. He said it will eventually have to come out, that’s a given, we are just buying time. She sees a bit but not much, she has to have 7 drops a day. Im going to talk to Dr. Quin and see what he suggests. The thing is she still can see a bit. I just can’t imagine getting her other eye out but it will come down to that for sure and most likely soon. So I don’t know, I hate when I get two conflicting suggestions. Dr. Branton will be the one to do it, he did the other eye, he’s great and I trust him plus she will be at home. Im scared to have a blind dog but have researched my fanny off and have been working with her.

But what ever happens she is mine and I will love that baby to peaces. I just hate seeing animals go threw things like this.

On a funny side, my dad took me to the vets, he knows I have a crush on my vet. So I had Rocky up on the table and Dr. Branton said, “Mover Over.” So I move really close to him, he giggled and said, “No the dog Courtney.” My dad and vet were cracking up and I was beat red because I was really close to him, lol. He’s such a cutie, he looks like Richard Gere.

Rocky was horrible at the vets, she was barking like crazy. Blind dogs bark more then dogs that can see, it’s instincts so I picked her up and had to rock her like a baby so she calmed down.

I'm relieved the lump is nothing to worry about but very sad about her eye. If it were my dog I would wait as long as possible to have the other eye removed as long as you don't feel she is in pain. I've had a few dogs in my life and I could always tell when they were uncomfortable and in pain because I knew them very well. They do not hide it as well as birds do. If you know Rocky well also you might want to let your 'doggie instincts' help with your decision as well as your doctor's good advice.

Great news about the lump. Hmmm... it is a confusing issue concerning the eye. I would think that even tough dogs can hide pain, if her eye was really bothering her she would show some sign such as hiding, pawing it, panting, shivering. Talk to the opthalmologist vet and tell him your concerns.
It is very hard to see our babies suffering. I wish rocky much love and hugs. Prayers coming her way. Hugs to you too!
