Thank you. Would you please elaborate the idea?
They have hanging nets that you can put toys in. If he wants to play, that gives him yards of play!

Check out Oliver's Garden parrot toys. Not sure if they can ship to you but @Susan and Oliver is a member and her nets with added toy rings are legendary.

Baby updates: she is not a baby anymore. She has become a gorgeous alexandrine, approximately 5 months old. She has started her first molt and already lost two long tail feathers. I'm happy those feathers with stress bars are shedding. She has a shadow neck ring, I don't know whether it's a She or He.
About the personality, I must say she has attitude! And she is independent! I've never seen this type of independent nature, not even in my amazon (@Clueless, you know how independent they can be!). She has very strong opinions and she can be stubborn. She will step up whenever she feels, otherwise not. She is not at all cuddly, only allows occasional head and beak rubs. Touching her feet is a strict no no ( I don't know how I'm going to trim her nails). She is an excellent flyer and avid chewer. She is very attached to me but again,on her own terms.

Now I have a question. Her favorite position is sitting on my head. If I offer my hand to get her down, she'll refuse and bite gently. So how to get her down from this position?

@Macawnutz my memory isn't as good as it used to be.... didn't your son have a macaw on his head once but I think he knelt down (near something) to get him off?

I do just that, I kneel down so that the cage top is higher than my head. But it doesn't work always:sneaky:

Ooh wow he/she is so gorgeous! What a difference a few months makes. I had that issue with my old sun conure. I'd always have to go the the cage and lean down and he'd luckily almost always step off that way if he didn't I'd use a perch and get it hear him and he'd step up on that.

This brat just runs down from my head to my back:banghead:

There are very few members here that know I actually was a "parrot trainer" for SO MANY years of my life. Very technical teachings like full songs and riding bikes. I rarely comment on these type of posts but this one has me laughing this morning. This is a very simple fix...

DO NOT under any circumstances let that bird land on your head. This is the same of any angry or spirited bird trying to land on your shoulder that shouldn't be.... DUCK. Do not let her land.
From that position remember ( you have a flyer! ) the wonderful thing about flying children is you can throw them when you need. Bend forward quickly tossing her from your head. Quickly and intently is key so she does not attach to your hair instead. If they are on your back, back up into a wall to get them back to your shoulder.

The rule.... Any bird that gives grief about stepping up or threatens biting should not be allowed near your face.

Thank you so much for your valuable advice. I'll do as you said.

I had to duck Lurch a lot before he finally decided I was a friend. Got tired of getting bit on neck when he decided something wasn't happening that he wanted. Once we reached an understanding with each other he was alowed on my shoulder again.

Lurch is a pionus, isn't he?

Yes he was, I have Dobby now and he's a Maxi too but Lurch was a mad at the world Pionus so he used to bite and trigger a lot. He escaped in 2016 and after a few days he was chased out of the tree he was in and haven't seen him since:sad13:

@Macawnutz, today I tried to restrict her from sitting on top of my head. Whenever she tried to land, I raised my hand over my head as a landing option. She refused twice but finally came to sit on my hand.

I know how you feel. My Rio ( CBC) escaped last February and I was shattered.

Perfect! It shouldn't take long to have her re taught. :) Maybe down the line you can revisit shoulder time but honestly it's overrated. I have one bird I allow on my shoulder but if my husband is home I would not dare. They don't understand the grey area so you end up confusing them which is unkind.

Alexandrines have much scarier beaks than tiels, but this is what worked for Vista when she kept landing on my head. Vista wouldn't step up on hands due to being scared, but she would go on a perch or a clothed arm. The second she landed on my head I would immediately put my arm up there and move it towards her. She would sometimes climb on it, but most of the time she would fly back to her cage. Either was a win in my book. After a couple of weeks she got the message and learned to land elsewhere. I also made sure to keep my energy calm - I wasn't mad, this was simply the result of her landing where she shouldn't. :)

I also agree with the tip of ducking or tilting your head quickly if that feels more comfortable for you.

Please tell me more about her. Is she cuddly ? Is she sassy? How do you trim her nails? My alex doesn't like any foot touch.

Vista is my parent-raised cockatiel (grayface pearl). I have a thread for her but I'm long overdue to post another update. Surprisingly, she is very cuddly, but I would still qualify her as sassy since she's happy to make angry noises if she doesn't like something. If she does 'bite' it's actually much more gentle than my rescue tiel (who is still tame and kind). I don't want to oversell myself - I worked hard but I am sure having another tame cockatiel around for Vista to see me interact with was a massive difference maker. Does your girl see you interact with your other birds regularly? I don't know how flock oriented Alexandrines are, but from what I've read, it sounds like they aren't too solitary?

I'll be honest, I don't trim my tiel's nails unless the are at the vet and look overgrown. I just wear long sleeves. :laughing2: Vista won't let me touch her feet. Candela (rescue tiel) will, but the second I try to hold one of her toes she protests. I'm also a bit nervous of them jerking their foot and getting a toe cut! It sounds like you can trim your other bird's nails and that you might have some big ones. That's very impressive you were able to train them.

I love tiels, they're the cuddly cutie pies. As far as nail trim is concerned, I've only trimmed nails of my conure. My amazon doesn't step up so nail is not a problem. But this alex is quite difficult.
