Rupert's was removed without anesthesia. Tech held him still while the Doctor cut the band two times. She was a bit worried since he was wiggling and she wasn't sure she had enough strength in her hands to cut through, but she managed it just fine. I kept the pieces from the band and put them with my collected feathers.
I am so glad to hear someone else has a feather collection. Thinking of putting mine in a picture frame, under glass.

No anesthesia for my two tiels either. It took about 30 seconds for each of them, but they're both very tame and easy to handle. If your vet feels that something is required to lessen stress, you ask for midazolam, which is a benzodiazepine that makes the bird calm/sleepy without the risks of full anesthesia. My vet uses it regularly for stressful procedures like wound care.
