Hi everyone,
Is jute a safe rope or twine to make toys with? Seems similar to sisal but want to be sure before I start using it. Thanks!

I think it's okay if untreated. The problem is most rope/twine you find IS treated.

I think if it smells like oil, or anything other than dirt/grass then it's not okay.

It is fine as long as it is untreated. California Bird Nerds will have some in stock soon.

I use natural jute a lot. It works really well for me. Oliver won't touch it, so I can use it for several things. His "tree" is easily re-arranged because I can tie the branches together with ALOT of jute. If I need to change things or check the wood/rope I just untie it. I made a (really) small net a few months ago and he plays with the toys hanging off, but ignores the rope. For what I use it for, it's perfect. And of course, your baby may react differently.
