I have a pretty solid suspicion that Cherry's gland is impacted. Could some Goffin parronts give me size/shape descriptions and maybe some pictures? :( I am having an anxiety attack and already setting up for an emergency vet visit in the morning.

Having a panic-attack. She isn't acting out of character, but I just have a feeling. :(

I healthy preening gland is flat somewhat smallish, and, on at least my goffins, is a healthy coral or pink color. If it looks dark brown or is suspiciously raised in a lump is the time to worry. You might be able to open it up by applying warm compresses to it. Or run warm water on it in the shower.

Yeah, it's a deep red, raised, and feverish feeling. I have an appointment in an hour.

Glad you caught that so fast! Good luck, hope the vet fixes her right up.

How is her diet? My Allie was Vit A deficient when I got her; as a result, her preen gland was brown and malfunctioning. I put some neosporin on it occasionally and improved her diet. Her preen gland is now normal, and she no longer has dirty brown feathers from her preening that gunky oil onto herself.

Back from the vet with bad news. :( While her weight and everything else seemed spot-on, her preen gland was so badly impacted that they couldn't do a flush. We were sent home with Metacam and a second appointment on Thurs to see if the anti-inflammtories have helped any. If it comes down to surgery, I don't know how we'll afford it-- but I've got a soul left to sell.

sorry for this double-post:

As for her diet, it's very well-rounded with MSBS Blends, with mash and pasta/rice.

Many prayers that the medicine works and you don't need surgery. One of our members just had that surgery with success. Can you barter with the vet? Can you do filing, washing, mowing, painting? There is also credit care just google it. Many of us are in the same boat and what we do is throw all our change in jar at the end of the day for a vet fund and take it to the bank once a month or so.

Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear about Cherry, and I really hope she will not need surgery. :( Poor baby, I wonder what caused it?
It definitely can't hurt to apply for the CareCredit card. If you get denied, maybe a family member would be willing to apply and add you as an authorized user -- that way you could make the payments directly.

I had just about no credit, and was approved for $500 of Care Credit. It is worth a shot.

Cherry isn't feeling well today. :( I was able to get a little out of her gland today but it is still horribly swollen. Pray for us at the vet's tomorrow.

Sorry to hear it, best of luck at tomorrow's appointment. Good thing you noticed it and have an opportunity to prevent it from worsening.
