I have recently pulled 2 crimson Rosella's from the nest as their parents abandoned them and have been hand rearing without any issues. Today i noticed the boy isnt moving much in the brooder. This is his leg, it seems to be facing outwards. I cant get him to a vet for another day, ive never seen this!

Is it possible something got caught around his leg, like a string, hair, or bedding?

No, he is in a brooder with wood shavings as his bedding. There is no markings or cuts on it.

It looks broken to me too. It certainly doesn't look like splay leg and the swelling is quite concerning. Hopefully you will get him into the vet soon for x-rays. Crimsons are one of my favorite species!

Our vet said they dont specialise in birds and its best to go to a avian vet as they think it could be a slipped tendon. Does anyone know of any decent avian vet in Melbourne?
