Peanut shells

I've been using beads in a low container for parrotlet foraging. I just bought peanuts and thought I could use the shells for foraging too. They aren't bad for small birds to chew on, are they?

so basically, no bird should be fed peanuts... not even wild birds. Why are peanuts so common in birds' diets then!?
