recently there has been a house centipede living lavishly around my and my bird's corner of the house, whom me and my friend have nicknamed girlegs. just now my boy sunny was in his cage, preening himself when he suddenly jumped all the way to the other side of the cage, squeaking in fear and when i went to have a closer look our centipede roommate promptly scuttled right out from under his cage :'D sunny has always hated any kind of flying bugs so i am assuming this centipede must be to blame for this? ive never seen him react to anything in that way. curious to hear everyone's experiences with this, and if i should try to catch girlegs and release her outside to avoid further accidents haha

I had a Hahns afraid of blueberries, so I generally assume anything is possible

You could relocate her, or just see if his reactions get less severe as time gets on (assuming he's not hurting himself)

I would maybe move it somewhere else or see how it goes like @Mizzely says

that’s so weird @Mizzely because Remi has three woven wood balls two green one purple I held purple one up and he freaked out green ones not bothered I tried blueberries other day same reaction would not go near veggies just sat screaming at other side of cage I am thinking purple is a no go colour haha:rofl:

haha thank you for the replies, its a relief to know it's normal for parrots to just be scared of the most random things lol
i think i'll just try to catch and relocate the centipede as i don't wanna risk anything right now. the little scare it gave sunny earlier could've gotten him injured (thankfully he is ok!) and had me looking him up and down for 15 ish minutes to make sure everything is fine so i don't wanna push it, especially considering the centipede will still be here when im not able to immediately assess any possible injuries >>

My living room was very scary yesterday and I wonder if we had little critters coming indoors for the winter.
My birds have learned to love blueberries.

You're braver than I am having a house centipede around without putting it elsewhere - I keep tarantulas, have had a couple roach colonies, isopods all over... But those freaking house centipedes send me through the ceiling :roflmao:

I would remove the centipede if it is causing stress or upset to your bird.
I saw one of these house centipedes for the first time in my life the other week- I found it creepier than the centipedes who can give you a nasty bite lol

Also they're speed of light fast, which I hate. You blink and it's disappeared somewhere and you don't know where it's gone.

We've never had anything like a centipede in the apartment. Mostly pantry moths, fruitflies and the occasional housefly, and just before winter, a few stink bugs find their way in. They don't upset Ralph. He just stares at them. Sometimes he sees bumblebees flying around by the balcony and he seems fascinated by them and likes to watch them.

I don't know what it is about blueberries, but Ralph thinks they're scary too. Purple things in general don't upset him, only blueberries.

My guys have been taught to enjoy berries. I figure they’re the most nutritious fruit I can feed. So blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, sometimes strawberries are a hit here. But they had to learn that it was food or would ignore it.

to be honest they do freak me out a little bit, but along with spiders, they take care of other unwanted bugs so i let them exist peacefully....so long as they're in my bathroom;; i have a habit of leaving my doors open and the one i keep seeing must've snuck out of the bathroom at some point, thus causing chaos so it's definitely gonna be evicted once im able to get my hands and an appropriate catching apparatus on it lol the hairy look and the speed definitely add to the creep factor tho ;;>>

also, after reading about everyone's birds and their reaction to blueberries im compelled to see how my sunny will react to them. im gonna have to buy some very soon to see how it goes haha

One of my guys loves blueberries, one ignores them and the other one is really good at throwing them across the aviary- none of my boys had a fear or poor reaction to them though so I kinda feel ripped off lol.
