Oscar's habit?

Oscar appears to be doing much better. He's moving around a lot more. He's talking to me, playing games with me, and being an all around silly, funny bird (except for the cage aggression). He has one odd behavior. I think it's odd, but maybe it's normal for a Quaker?

This is a 7 minute video. It, unfortunately, has no sound, or you could hear Oscar grinding his beak, and the soft little noises he makes when engaged in this behavior.

You can skip to the last 2 minutes to see what I'm talking about. He does this all the time. Do you think it's just a nervous habit, like someone biting their nails?

And yes quakers can be prone to a little nervous feet preening, some is normal, but I've a couple when they are a little nervous or excess energy go right to feet.
In extreme quakers are know to mutilation of feet, so much so it's called quaker mutilation syndrome. But no worries here; I don't think you have a thing to worry about!

My old quaker rescue, did mutilation of feet when I got her, bloody feet, self amputated a toe tip... thankfully happy new life with me she stopped pretty quick! But when stressed she spends a lot of time preening feet, but doesn't hurt them anymore.

It also looks like he is play regurgitation or almost to feet. A pretty common thing many species will do. Most likely from not having attention before, and now getting attention gets them a little wound up . Totally normal happens to many rescues ,and Will phase out out as settles in.

Could he be adjusting his crop?

I didn't watch entire video but I noticed his beak wide open in a spot. I think I read a thread somewhere that said they adjusted their crop that way too.

Do you mean he is attempting to regurgitate literally TO his feet or perch. Like feeding them? Could I be spending too much time with him? I sometimes just sit in his room and read to him. He seems to like it but I don't want to do anything to cause him too much stress.

It looks like that to me pico (male) does it to his cat ball I don’t think your spending too much time with him to me he looks to be settling nicely

But @Clueless would be right too as pico sometimes abjust his crop which looks a lot like he’s about to regurgitate
but I would say it looks a lot like pico when he regurgitates obviously lovebirds are different so hopefully @Pixiebeak can help better

No you are not spending to much time to him! No you aren't causing anything. Keep spending lots of time as much as you want.

It's just a real common thing in new re homes to be feeling all the happy juice . They are so happy to be getting attention, or they are thinking they need to cement the bond to their new person.

Or this was already a coping mechanism he had .

My penny had a tou she regurgitat to , murmur sweet nothing to , preen. Just to be sure I spoke with my vet. She said she needed her pretend friend , it has kept her company and was helping with stress. That she would stop as she adjusted and hit kits if real attention and she did .

Even if this is something he kept up, it's no big deal . Inky if he he was so obsessed that this was all he did all the time would I be concerned. And then only after it had continuous after several months .

Really, you have nothing to worry about! Enjoy your new guy! They are highly sociol, they need a lot of interaction.

A lot of Quakers have strange relationships with their feet. Willow just chews his nails so I don’t have to clip them. But some will regurg for their feet, talk to them, etc.
