Not sleeping enough

Good morning, World!

My lovebird is around two years. A few details about his sleeping arrangementes:

- He sleeps in a separate room, with complete darkness and no one comes into the room.
- I put him there at 9.00PM and wake him up at 8:00AM (he's usually already awake by the time I get him)
- It's kind of cold in my city so he has a heating pad. In order to keep the heat inside the cage, I have to put a blanket over the cage. He's not a fan of it but I think he's getting used to it (and the only other alternative is facing a cold night)
- We are Spanish = we are noisy and loud. Unfortunately, the room he sleeps in is kind of near to the kitchen where my family makes noise until around 10:00 PM (no matter how many times I've begged them for silence, it's like noise is in their DNA or sth).
- During the days, he takes (or tries to) a couple naps. Always in my hand.

Now, my lovebird is a light sleeper. I always assumed he'd have some trouble sleeping until my family shut up, but thought he'd sleep the whole night after that (it's a very quiet building). However, this dawn at aroun 5AM I went to get a glass of water (I made MINIMAL sound, I promise, not even my mum who wakes up as if someone is bombing us if we breath too loud woke up) and he was awake (or was awaken by my minimal sound). I know this because he's the cleverest boy ever and learnt how to say "I love you", and I got an "I love you" at 5AM (which also makes me think his survival instincs are close to the negative digits. What if I had been a tiger?).

This makes me think one of two things:
- He's alert all night long, never getting any real rest and waking up at everything (in which case my house must be a nightmare)
- He is an even lighter sleeper than I thought.

I have no idea what to do to make him sleep better. If the problem is that he's scared, I could always get his cage and put him in my bedroom (I know he feels really safe with me). But I am a noisy sleeper, tossing around all night and even talking in my sleep (gosh, how Spanish I am). If the problem is that he's a very light sleeper... are there any insonoritation panels to keep noise from coming in instead of going out?

Sorry for the long post but I thought you might need the details. If someone has any advice they'd like to share, please they are all welcome!

Is he showing signs that he needs more sleep? All of my birds have always taken naps during the day regardless of nighttime sleep conditions.

The jungle at night is not silent or pitch black. Birds are a prey species and naturally alert to some degree no matter what. Some species may only sleep with half their brain at a time to remain vigilant.

My birds tend to go to sleep around 8-9pm. Then I'm done with work around 10-11 and they usually are back up to eat or chatter with me before they settle down again. I finally go to bed around 1am and that's the first time they get silence. Then my kids are up around 7am. So there's only a 6 hour window where they could get "uninterrupted sleep", but I highly doubt they stay sleep they whole time.

This addresses some of the sleep myths:

My lovebird will wake up periodically through the night to either poop, snack or change sleeping spots.... she poops at lot at night. But I do see her sleeping when I check the camera at night before I go to bed. I do have my Google home device play ambient rain throughout the night though. she also gets plenty of naps throughout the day.

I know we often say birds need 10-12 hours of sleep but I don't think any bird ever really "sleeps" that long. It's more rest time/darkness. Also, how cold is your house? If your bird doesn't like being covered, I wouldn't cover him unless you have to.

They are VERY light sleepers. I’ve never known my birds to not know when I walk into a room, no matter how quiet I am (and they are covered). Usually I get quiet sleepy chirps from some of them in acknowledgment, and I’ll reassure them that it’s just me.
