Non toxic markers

I am building a roosting box for my little sun conure. I know it is unsafe to paint the box but I was wondering if it would be okay to draw little designs with Crayola non toxic washable markers?

You can use food coloring (Most people recommend the gel stuff) and just paint it on with a new clean paintbrush.

Painting it would probably work or the markers sound cool too. Thanks for the advice!
