Dear Forum Members,
I'm new to Avian Avenue and already completely thrilled. Helpful posts, respectful interactions, and a passion for parrots in every thread. My wife and I adopted 2 parrotlets from the animal shelter in November, who were abandoned in the trash. Unfortunately, we have no information about their age and history. I suspect they are still traumatized.
We are very happy with them and don't expect much. In the first 1.5 months, they didn't dare to leave the cage, which was always open. Now they fly freely and happily out every morning, exploring their surroundings. They are very cautious with everything. When we set up a new toy in the cage, they hide in the opposite corner for 2 days until they get used to it. They learn, but very slowly. After the first few flights, they always struggled to find the entrance to the cage. Once they figure it out, it's smooth sailing.
We need to work on their diet, as they don't touch anything besides seeds. We've tried a lot of different stuff. Some helpful tips were given to us in the forum, and we'll now try freeze-dried vegetables. Taming them is also a challenge, but I'm optimistic to find some answers here.
