Hi im kadie, live in aberdeen, scotland, i have recently bought a blue throat conure 1 year old mango, i have had him for a month now. He is so timid and petrified of hands will not let you near him. He comes out his cage has a fly around but looks as tho hes panicing with really fast breathing (not sure if thats normal after flying) he goes up top of cage and will barely move sits there all day will have something to eat and drink then go back. He will sometimes take a treat from my hand through the cage. He lets me stick train him a little bit i get the step up onto stick with my hand getting closer to him each time and pet his head with the stick eventually my finger but soon as he realises hes away. Any advice on how to get him to calm down and get him to trust me more. Also not sure the previous owner let him out much his nails are super long and hadnt been wormed or anything like that i need to get him to the vet for a check up and a trim but i dont want to freak him out and have to start all over... what should i do.. thanks

I just wanted to say a big welcome! One month is not very long and to a bird, I think it might be a fraction of a second. They do take a long time to trust us. :welcome2:
I would love to visit Scotland! Some of my ancestors are from there. I named my 2 budgies Fergus and Fiona in honor of my ancestry. :)

Hi thank youfor your reply.. yes i did think time was more a factor than anything else. Any recommendations on when i should take him to a vet? Should i do it now so its over with or wait till he is settled?

What part of Scotland are they from?

Good evening April, aw bless is it. I hope he starts to trust me and shine through. He has started to show a wee bit of personality. He runs back and forth at the bottom of the cage to play with my pomchi dogs(they dont get out when mango gets out) he then jumps onto the side of the cage watching them chirping away then will go back down bottom and run around my black pomchi follows him with her head i think thats what he wants to do with her its quite funny.
Cool where abouts. It can be beautiful but get all 4 seasons in 1 day here up north lol

That sounds like heaven to me! I'm from MI orginally so I loved having 4 seasons here in Texas it's mostly just blazing hot with some freezing cold thrown in around Dec/Feb. I'd love to experience all 4 seasons again.
Do you have any pics of your Mango or that maybe you've taken of any of the country if you don't mind?
Have you ever been to Loch Ness? I know it's cliché but I'd absolutely love to go there to look for Nessie ;)

Wow! Oh my gosh it's so glorious! I'd never tire of that view. What type of Raptor is that flying in the pic? Raptors are my passion so I find that pic especially thrilling.

Ooh that's fantastic! When I lived in FL I'd see them every day and I really miss that. They are such a beautiful and icon Raptor.
