Hi everyone, my name is Christina, I'm Greek so I do apologize in advance in case my English are a bit peculiar. I'm totally in love with my two Jenday conures. I'm happy to join the Forum cause I can see how much effort you put in here by posting all the info and tips regarding our feathered friends.
As you can probably tell from my Forum name, they're Rio & Phoebe. Rio is 1,5 years old and Phoebe is 7 months old
I do have previous experience with birds since a very young age, and had other animals as well (dogs, cats & a turtle). However, birds have always been my soft spot
I also had a pigeon when I was about 6 years old (yeap!). Rescued by my uncle and me when he fell off the nest.
I have a bunch of questions as well. Probably not the right corner of the forum to ask questions but main reason is because Phoebe bites. A lot. And she has tremendous strength if I may add
I got them both from the same breeder at about 2 months old each. So it was during the last phase of hand feeding. I did some handfeeding as well so they could bond a little bit more with me. They are both very affectionate but very different characters. Rio is much more easy going, not causing trouble most of the time. If he sits on my lap, he'll probably stay there just looking around what I'm doing/watching and relaxing all puffed up. Phoebe however is a different case. She's always with her mouth open looking to bite something (anything). I know that conures are notorious chewers which I can see pretty much every day (my furniture know it as well). But it's just that she can't stay a second still without biting.
I can tell they both love me as they always follow me around the house, and try to preen my hair and everything and wanting to spend time with me. I am also paying a lot of attention to them cause I'm working from home so I'm most of the time there with them. And they have a spacious cage as well, being fed with their daily fruits and vegetables, I'm also clipping their nails, providing them with stuff and toys to sharpen their beaks. In general I provide them the best care I can. And most importantly I'm handling both the same way so as to avoid jealousy issues. So I can't really identify the cause of why she's biting so much. And I have no idea how to train her not to. I hope it's not too late.
Any tips, or if there are similar threads in the forum would help a lot
Thank you in advance
