Hi!
I've just lost my canary-winged of 17 years and have been heartbroken. She was sweet, gentle, communicated well with people as to what she wanted, a perfect bird.

I've always believed in having just one bird as I want a pet, not just birds.

After a lot of searching, I found a 6 month old pair. The shopowner convinced me to take the two, as there are so few in my area and he promised to take the chicks at the right time. (I've never raised birds before). These two birds are hard to tame, bite and are frightened of us.
We are thinking of seperating them into different cages and interacting with them, one at a time.

Does anyone have ideas on this, or on a better way to tame the birds?

Thank You

Welcome to AA. Sorry about the loss of your canary-winged.
The babies are probably a bit scared because they are in a new place with unfamiliar people. Be very patient with them. Don't force them to step up or come out of their cage. Let their behavior guide you. Drop treats in the cage as you walk by. Sit near them and talk to them.
I wouldn't separate them right now. I think it would just stress them out even more.
Post some photos of them when you get a chance.

Thank You!

We just brought them home, are working on names, I kinda like "Fred & Ginger" or "Bogie and Bacall" (I'm accepting submissions). - They are beautiful!

Welcome! They're beautiful. I just fostered a canary-winged and completely fell in love with the species. Just take things slow and be patient with them. :) And so sorry for your loss.

My first big parrot was a BeeBee Parrot back in the early 70s. He was a feisty little bugger that eventually chose me. He thought he was a eagle and it's hard to realize how small Ralph really was he acted so big.
