Hi everyone. I have a new member in my family, a beautiful Rosy Bourke. I am wondering if there are visual ways to ID the sex? I think I read that the males have blue brows but I know there are different kinds of Bourkes so not sure if that applies to the Rosies. Here is a picture of mine...I think 'her' name is Star but I have only had her for a day so I am not 100% sure yet, lol. Can anyone tell me if Star is a 'her'?

Thank you! DSC_1588_02.JPG

Reading up a bit on Bourkes and now am wondering if the bird I have is even a Rosy? She is almost all grey when looking at her from behind...

Your bird is beautiful! I'm not sure if he/she is a Rosie or not. All the ones I have seen have been more pink....... But I'm not that knowledgeable on Bourkes.

@Monica ? @Coki ?

Thank you! I think that she is a she...from what I have found so far from googling. Not quite sure on the Rosie part yet! One website called this variation a 'wild colored variation' with a picture just like mine, and said it was a female...

From your picture it doesn't look like yours has the increased pink colouration that would indicate a Rosy Bourke's mutation, but a few pictures from the side and back would probably make it easier to confirm.

A bourke's may be sexed visually because the males have a splash of blue on their brow and from certain posturing behaviors, but the only sure-fire way to know is through DNA sexing. Yours looks like it has the hints of that blue brow, so maybe a boy?

I will try to get some more pictures posted to hopefully get a positive sex id...not that it really matters...
