New budgie mom

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself! I was looking for a good budgie breeders for a while but saw a rehoming ad on Kijiji from someone who bought 2 budgies and didn’t have time to take care of them. So I present to you... Hedwig (white/yellow) and Nimbus (green/yellow).

I've had them for just a few weeks but I love them so much already. I've previously had a cockatiel and several budgies over the years. My family had our tiel, Bebe, for 20+ years so it was heartbreaking to lose him. It took me a while to get new birds.

The new budgies are doing well. I very proud that I've managed to get them to eat their veggie chop. I'm having less luck with pellets but it's still early days. Hedwig is definitely less active and loses more feathers than Nimbus. However, she seems pretty healthy and has no bald patches. Not sure if this is just because she is a female? Or because she seems to favour seeds more than Nimbus? Let me know if you have any advice.

Love the names! And your budgies are beautiful Hedwig may just be molting. It can sometimes cause them to be less active.

@sunnysmom My tiel looked like Rosie!

@BirdWorld I think you may be right. She seems to losing less feathers than a full molt but maybe that's just how she molts? I'm going to see if I can get her to eat some egg food.

@budgieluv3 Yay! More HP fans I have a photo of Nimbus on a natural perch aka Nimbus on a Nimbus. He's pretty crazy and zooms around my living room at top speed so it's an appropriate name. Hedwig is the much smarter one lol

Bit old for HP but do remember that ring scene with Precious. When Rio came his name was Precious but it did not have the ring I wanted. Mucked around with Phoenix but Rio came to mind & stuck.

Oppps my bad Precious was Lord of The Rings! Now I feel old & senile!

Hi! Thanks It's an Australian Umbrella Tree - I looked it up before I got the birds and it's on the list of bird safe plants. But I monitor the birds when they're out to make sure they don't chew on random things. Luckily, they haven't had any interest in my plants! Right now, they're obsessed with the cuttlefish bone. Not sure why but their old owner never gave them one.
