Need a new area rug....

I am aware of the dangers of carpeting...I need a new area rug for the living room, next to the bird room They are seperated by doors. What precautions should I take....

In my experience, area rugs don't have the same odor as traditional carpeting does. If you notice any odor coming from the rug, I would just let it air out, unrolled, outside until the odor dissipates.

Just saw this .I agree most area rugs don't have the same strong smell as carpeting.
