Aside from cayenne pepper are there any other natural pain killers that are bird - safe?

Someone suggested tea tree oil but it is toxic to animals.

Tea trea oil is very corrosive to mucus membranes - bird crops included. Cayenne pepper is the "painkiller" I've heard of, but I haven't actually tried it myself.

you mix it into paste with distilled water. but i'm adding my own warning to this. be very careful that what you are applying the paste to. if it can get into your bird's eyes, stop. Rocky had very, very bad eye infection from cayenne paste on a wound. JMO

sorry to be compleatly off topic but is it ok to use tea tree shampoo? I'm not using it right now but I switch between a salon brand anti dandriff shampoo and tea tree and it really helps my dandriff issues I have but I am wondering if it's safe to use now that I have Riley.

I use Therapeutic Grade Young Living Essential Oils topically; as recommended to me during a consult with Dr. Melissa Shelton and Angela Nelson.

You could contact them to see what they would recommend for your particular situation.

Dr. Melissa Shelton - Home Page
Angela Nelson may be able to be contacted through her Facebook Group: Aromatherapy for Parrots

Parrots and essential oils

I apply the YL Essential Oils as a spray on the affected area. I use 4 ounces distilled water with 2-3 drops Helichrysum, 5 drops Frankincense and 5 drops Copaiba.

I think I should mention camomile tea. Now, it doesn't actually help with pain, but if there is a situation where pain is happening, it can help calm the bird.

Hi! So just to make sure arnica 200 1 drop orally for my bird is ok right? My holistic vet recommended that for my little Japanese white eye who has head trauma. I just wanted to be sure before I actually gave it being that she isn’t an avian vet.

Yes I do. I just wanted to know what others thought about it and their experiences with it.

Turmeric and ginger are also natural anti-inflamatories that can help reduce pain.
