My Sweet Sweet Eclectus

I have posted on avian avenue quite a bit b/c I really enjoyed sharing ideas that helped tame our sweet rescue eclectus. Sadly, she passed away last night. She had a very rough life with more vet visits/shots than any bird I've ever heard of, cancer, tail removed, feather plucking...

She was a crazy hormonal biting bird when we go her. You couldn't touch her anywhere. I started by touching her feet while she was hanging on the inside of the cage. She became so tame that she would lie on her back while I put a sweater sock on her. She eventually found that she loved to have her head and behind her ears scratched. She cuddled right up to my chest everytime I picked her up. I really, really miss her. ~Page

Page, so sorry for your loss. It sounds as if you worked wonders with your girl and made her last moments of life very happy! It is so sad and heartbreaking when we lose such a special friend. I hope with time you will have only happy memories.

Thanks everyone. I did a TON of research for about a year before I adopted her. My SIL has birds, but my ekkie experience was textbook. Nothing prepared me for the loving relationship. She was a rare bird too in that she could go a lot of places with me since she was so calm. I will miss her so much. ~Page
