I came out to do barn chores this morning and only saw wreckage where there used to be a stall front. My heart horse, Courage, obviously was scared badly during the night and battered down his stall front, breaking a 4 inch fence post, five rails of 1 x 6 's, and a metal gate. Unfortunately, most of this brute force was accomplished by his head, so he is badly injured.
He has a few cuts & scrapes, but he has crushed his left eye socket and may lose his left eye. He is at the vet hospital right now, awaiting xrays and diagnostics. His left eye is swollen almost completely shut, and he was bleeding from his left nostril. I've cried a river of tears today, but I desperately hope that he'll be ok.
He may lose his eye, and he will have a damaged skull on his left side, but he'll always be my heart horse and can live out the rest of his days retired in the pasture, being a horse.
My friend has said that horses are put on this earth with a master plan to kill themselves in the most inconvenient and expensive way possible. Every day that they don't accomplish this plan, gives them more time to perfect it. Courage almost perfected his plan today.
