So much to my happiness my job has about 2 acres of land and we are still just "wild" enough to have several Squirrels, Bunnies and a plethora of different small bird species that frequent our yard so most days I work on lunch I roam around hoping to get some nice shots. I've recently befriended for lack of a better word what is clearly a female squirrel who either has babies in her Drey or is about to have them any day. At first she would bolt at the mere sight of me but now after about a month of taking pics of her she lets me get closer every time and I archived the ultimate trust the other day. She was on the ground with a nut and saw me approach but she didnt bolt in fear she simply climbed up the tree nice and slow giving me several good shots and then pretty as you please stretched out with her prize about 7 feet above my head and was absolutely content to just hang out right above me and continue to husk her nut and look completely adore while she did. I was so touched that she trusted me enough to feel safe and stay that close to me for about 20 mins while she slowly but surely unearthed her prize at one point she was throwing the husk fragments aside and one hit me on the shoulder, lol.
Then after she finished her meal she slowly took off across the trees with me still following her and she looked back and saw me and still she continued on to her drey and showed me the location. I still can't believe I was "trusted" enough and deemed not a thread to be able to see such a sacred place. I am forever grateful for her trust in me. I hope she will stay around and raise her babies in the yard so I can watch them grow and get pics of them as well. @Peachfaced
