I'm sorry that the cage wasn't able to be used for the bird it was originally intended for. Though your Caiques are looking so cute and comfy in it!

Thanks !!
It was really a bad situation, but it is what it is.
In the meanwhile another (identical) cage is on his way and so is another parrot ! This time a 1y.o. hand raised Yellow-Crowned Amazon (I believe that is the common English name for the A. ochrocephala ochrocephala ? - sometimes I get confuse with the English names).
To be continued.... (in another thread)

:congrats5:
I'm toooootally not biased but Amazons are GREAT! You're going to have lots of fun. The Yellow Crowned Amazons are one of the cutest too in terms of proportions. Those big ole eyes and small heads are my favorite thing ever. They're really good talkers too! The one at my local bird shop says "Hi Chico!" and WAVES!!!!! Be careful as they'll pick up on naughty words too if you don't watch out! Super fun birds!

Hi,

I just wanted you to be aware that certain wood/branches are dangerours to parrots. It looks like you are using oak branches as perches for your birds and oak is listed as toxic because it contains tannin. Here is a list of safe/dangerous woods for parrots:

Thank you for your reply and for the useful link.

However, this is cork oak - very common in my area - and, as per the artcile you provided:

  • Cork Oak – (again avoid foliage and acorns) the bark of cork oak is safe for consumption even by humans whose tolerance for tannin is much lower than most bird species.
  • Cork Oak is a safe wood to leave the bark on. Cork oak has very low levels of tannin (far lower then other oaks) and the bark is just what the name says ‘Cork” Cork Oak is originally from southern Europe and is the source of all natural cork. The bark is very thick and well, cork like. It can be found wherever there are old wine growing areas as it was grown to provide corks for the bottles. It is also found scattered around the southeastern US and California. Because of it’s very low tannin content it is safe for use in food storage (the cork in the wine bottle, oil bottles, etc.)
