I have just purchased a pair mulga parrots from a breeder. The male had no tail feathers apparently "lost" in catching process. How long for them to regrow

A lot of parrots have weaker anchors on their tail feathers that make them fall out more easily than feathers on other parts of the body. It's believed this happens to trick and escape predators, just like how some lizards drop their tails. In budgies it takes about 8 weeks for a tail feather to regrow completely, so I'd expect about the same amount of time for a mulga parrot. If the feather was just damaged or clipped, it would take until the next molt for it to regrow, which could be at any time.

This is something you have to not think about too much, it might leave you worrying for a long time. The regrowth might take 4 - 5 months of more but you should notice growth in like a month or so. But not to worry, at least it does grow.

Member is unlikely to see reply as they have not visited here since the day they posted their query. I dare say they have seen the feathers return already as this thread was from the start of Feb.
